GELMERBAHN

The Gelmer Funicular is a cable railway in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. It links a lower terminus at Handegg, in the Haslital, with an upper terminus at the Gelmersee lake, 448 metres above. 

With 105% it is the steepest open air Funiclar in Europe.

THE TRIP

The Funiclar takes the passenger to the top within 14 minutes. The artificial green lake invites for a 1h 45 min hike to the SAC hut (restaurant) or taking a swim in the ice cold glacier water. As well you can pick nick at the lake shores and simply enjoy the mountain atmosphere. 

Please note, there is no restaurant in the near vicinity of the top terminus. As well it is recommended to wear mountaineering shoes. 

Reservations are arranged for Saturday July 10th 2027. In case you wish to ride the Funiclar on a different date, please get in touch with us. The half fare card is not valid.
